Poached Apple with Turkey Stuffing
A great gluten-free holiday dish is these poached apples filled with tasty turkey stuffing. When you mix soft apples with flavorful turkey stuffing, your guests will be impressed and happy. Plus, its better for you than traditional holiday meals.
Ingredients:
- 4 large apples, cored
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup celery, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup carrots, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup mushrooms, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried sage
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
Instructions:
In a skillet, cook ground turkey over medium heat until browned
Drain excess fat if necessary
Add onion, garlic, celery, carrots, and mushrooms to the skillet
Cook until vegetables are tender
Stir in dried thyme, dried sage, salt, and pepper
Preheat oven to 375F 190C
Stuff cored apples with the turkey mixture
Place stuffed apples in a baking dish and pour chicken or vegetable broth around them
Cover baking dish with foil and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until apples are tender
Serve hot and enjoy
